The Messiahship of Jesus

The Messiahship of Jesus,

100% Prophetically Accurate

image

When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you need not be afraid of him. Deuteronomy 18:22

Prophecy is God's chosen method to show his incredible infallibility when it comes to revealing the future. He has never been and will never be wrong. Meditate for one moment on that fact and it is mind boggling. History has many examples of people who have supernaturally foretold the future. But God's chosen prophets must be correct 100% of the time. Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, and others have amazingly forecasted future events, but nowhere near the accuracy of the Bible. Jesus teaches that there are two sources of power from which a person derives this ability; from God or Satan. "Signs and wonders" will delude many people during the final years simply because they will be unaware that Satan and His demons are working through the men who are performing those feats. There is a show on television currently that consists of a medium conversing with audience members about loved ones who have passed away. The audience sits in amazement as the medium reveals things that have happened over the course of their lives that no one else could have possibly known. They then think their own dead relatives or loved ones are communicating with them, when in actuality it is what the Bible terms "familiar spirits". The Bible strictly prohibits mediums, sorcerers, astrologers, psychics, and so on because of the extreme danger of being misled by them.

The Bible contains approximately 1000 prophecies of which approximately two thirds have been fulfilled. The remaining prophecies will be fulfilled during the "end times".  Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies himself regarding the arrival of the Messiah to Israel. The chance of any one person fulfilling just 8 of those prophecies is a billion to one.

Below is a partial list of Old Testament Prophecies that Jesus specifically fulfilled (Taken from The Beginning of the End, John Hagee, pp 61-83.) and also a link to the complete list. This list shows the Old Testament prophecies that had been accurately preserved and then how Jesus mysteriously fulfilled every one hundreds or thousands of years later, which was then recorded in the New Testament of the Bible.

1. The Messiah will be born of a woman: When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, God the Father made this statement to Satan:  "And I will put enmity between you (Satan) and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head (destroy you), and you will strike his heel"  (Gen 3:15 NIV)

Fulfillment: "But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of woman, born under law." (Gal. 4:4 NIV) Historically, the Bible refers to children through the "seed" of a man. This passage illustrates that the seed was the power of the Holy Spirit and not a man.

2. The Messiah will be born of a virgin: "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. (Luke 1:26,27)

3. The Messiah will be the Son of God: "I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, 'Thou art My Son, today I have begotten Thee'" (Psalm 2:7 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And behold, a voice (God the Father's) out of the heavens, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased'" (Matthew 3:17 NASB)  and: "And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, 'You are the Son of God'" (Mark 3:11)

4. The Messiah will be the Seed of Abraham: "In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice" (Genesis 22:18) and "Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him." (Genesis 12:3)

Fulfillment: "The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham" (Matt. 1:1) and "The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say 'and to seeds,' meaning many people, but 'and to your seed,' meaning one person, who is Christ." (Galatians 3:16 NIV)

5. The Messiah will be a Son of Isaac: "Then God said to Abraham, 'Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.'" (Genesis 17:19 NIV)

Fulfillment: "Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers...and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ" (Matthew 1:2, 16 NIV) and "Jesus, ....the son of Isaac, ..." (Luke 3:23, 34)

6. The Messiah will be a son of Jacob: "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star shall come forth from Jacob, and a scepter shall rise from Israel, and shall crush through the forehead of Moab, and tear down all the sons of Sheth." (Numbers 24:17 NASB)

7. The Messiah will be from the tribe of Judah: "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his." (Genesis 49:10 NIV)

Fulfillment: "Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar....and Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ" (Matthew 1:3, 16) and "Jesus, ...the son of Judah, ..." (Luke 3:23, 33). and "For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah." (Hebrews 7:14)

8. The Messiah will be of the family line of Jesse: "Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit" (Is. 11:1 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And Jesse begot David the king...and Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ" (Matthew 1:6, 16) and "Jesus, ....the son of Jesse, ..." (Luke 3:23, 32)

9. The Messiah will be of the house of David: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. Fulfillment: "Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea." (Matthew 2:1)

11. A star will announce the birth of the Messiah: "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near; a star shall come forth from Jacob, and a scepter shall rise from Israel, and shall crush through the forehead of Moab, and tear down the sons of Sheth." (Numbers 24:17 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.'" (Matthew 2:1-2)

Fulfillment: "Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, 'How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: "The LORD said to my Lord, 'Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.'" Therefore David himself calls Him "Lord"; how is He then his Son?' And the common people heard him gladly." (Mark 12:35-37)

15. The Messiah shall be called Immanuel (God with us): "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated, 'God with us.' Then Joseph, being aroused from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called his name Jesus." (Matthew 1:23-25)

(Hebrews 5:7-10 NIV)

20. The Messiah shall be anointed by the Holy Spirit: "And the spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD." (Isaiah 11:2 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.'" (Matthew 3:16-17 NASB)

21. The Messiah will have great zeal for God: "Because zeal for Your house has eaten me up, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me." (Psalms 69:9)

Fulfillment: "Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. When he had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, 'Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!' Then His disciples remembered that it was written, 'Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.'" (John 2:13017)

22. The Messiah will be preceded by a messenger: "A voice is calling, 'Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.'" (Isaiah 40:3 NASB)

Fulfillment: "In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!' For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; make His paths straight."'" (Matthew 3:1-3)

23. The Messiah will minister in Galilee: "But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles." (Isaiah 9:1 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee. And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 'The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.' From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'" (Matthew 4;12-17)

24. The Messiah's ministry will include miracles: "Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb will shout for joy." (Isaiah 35:5-6 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And Jesus was going about all the cities and the villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness." (Matthew 9:35 NASB)

(Psalms 78:2). and: "And He said, 'Go, and tell this people: "Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive." Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and return and be healed.'" (Isaiah 6:9-10)

Fulfillment: "All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 'I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret from the foundation of the world.'" (Matthew 13:34-35). and: "Then His disciples asked Him saying, 'What does this parable mean?' and He said, 'To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that "Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand."'" (Luke 8:9-10)

26. The Messiah will enter the temple: "And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple." (Malachi 3:1)

Fulfillment: "Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said to them, 'Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.'" (Matthew 24:1-2)

27. The Messiah would enter Jerusalem on a donkey: "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey." (Zechariah 9:9 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethpage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, 'Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, "The Lord has need of them," and immediately he will send them.' All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 'Tell the daughter of Zion, "Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey."' So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them." (Matthew 21:1-7)

28. The Messiah will be a "stone of stumbling" to the Jews: "The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone." (Psalms 118:22)

Fulfillment: "Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, 'Behold, I lay Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him (Jesus) will by no means be put to shame.' Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone,' and 'A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.'" (1 Peter 2:6-8)

29. The Messiah will be a light to the Gentiles: "I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles, to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the prison, those who sit in darkness from the prison house." (Is. 42:6-7)

Fulfillment: "The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." (Matthew 4:16). and: "A light (Jesus, the Messiah) to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel." (Luke 2:32)

30. The Messiah will be betrayed by a friend: "Even my close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me." (Psalm 41:9 NASB)

Fulfillment: "I (Jesus) do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.' Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He...Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me." (John 13:18-19,21). and "Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him." (Matthew 10:4)

31. The Messiah will be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver: "And I said to them, 'If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!' So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages." (Zechariah 11:12 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, 'What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him (Jesus) to you? And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver. So from that time he sought opportunity to betray Him." (Matthew 26: 14-16)

32. The price of betraying the Messiah will be given for a potter's field: "So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD." (Zechariah 11:13 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And they (the chief priests and elders) counseled together and with the money (that had been thrown into the temple by Judas) bought the Potter's Field as a burial place for strangers." (Matthew 27:7 NASB)

33.  The Messiah will be silent before his accusers: "He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth." (Isaiah 53:7 NASB)

Fulfillment: "And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing." (Matthew 27:12)

34. The Messiah will be scourged and wounded: "But he was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified." (Matthew 27:26)

35. The Messiah's hands and feet will be pierced: "They pierced My hands and My feet." (Psalm 22:16).

Fulfillment: "And when they came to a place called Golgotha, there they crucified Him." (Luke 23:33 NASB). This prediction was made long before crucifixion was invented as a form of capital punishment. The Psalmist wrote this prophecy over a thousand years before crucifixion was made common by the Romans, and the Jews never practiced crucifixion.

36. The Messiah will be put to death alongside transgressors: "Because He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors." (Isaiah 53:12 NASB)

Fulfillment: "At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left." (Matt 27:38)

37. The Messiah will be rejected by his own people: "He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem him." (Isaiah 53:3 NASB)

Fulfillment: "Then Pilate, when had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people said to them, 'You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse him; no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. I will therefore chastise Him and release Him' (for it was necessary for him to release one to them at the feast). ....And he released to them the one they had requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will." (Luke 23:13-18, 21-25).

38. The Messiah's side will be pierced: "They will look on Me whom they pierced." (Zech. 12:10)

Fulfillment: "But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear." (John 19:34)

39. The Messiah would rise from the dead: "For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay." (Psalm 16:10)

Fulfillment: "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen!" (Mark 16:6)

40. The Messiah will ascend to heaven: "Thou hast ascended on high." (Psalm 68:18 NASB)

Fulfillment: "He (Jesus) was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight." (Acts 1:9 NASB)

The recording of history with regard to the Old Testament Prophecies is thorough and accurate to say the least.  Jesus doesn't narrowly fit the bill as the Messiah, He slams shut the case.
